Level: MasterDoctorate
The research on Chemistry area at University of Franca – UNIFRAN, began in 1996,few researchers that, supported by the Institutiongovernment agencies, mostly FAPESPCNPq, implemented the first labs working exclusively for research. The expansionstrengthening of this group resulted in the approval of Academic Master in Science in the year of 2003Doctorate in 2007. Since the CAPES evaluation in 2010, regarding the years of 2007-2009, the Postgraduation Program in Science (PPC) is grade 5, evidencing its entrenched with the scientific communitytrend to growth, targeting scientific researchthe training of high qualified human resources.
The most important aspect of the PPC is its multiinterdisciplinary nature. These aspects can be observed in the background diversity of professorsstudents. Currently, the permanent advisors (researchers) group at GPC is composed of chemists, biologists, pharmacists, biomedicals, agronomistsengineers. The students group also comprises chemists, pharmacists, biologists, engineers, others. All research areas were created based on the main competencesskills of the researchers, their ability to produce high quality science with nationalinternational collaborations,to engage the students with ethical values to attend the contemporary work marketplace.

Chemistry
This research line focuses on the development of hybrid materials and nanocomposites for applications in materials chemistry using the sol-gel process (hydrolysis and condensation of precursors) to obtain new materials and functionalize inorganic (natural or synthetic) and/or polymeric matrices. The scope of this project includes materials such as polymers, ceramics, and other analogous solids that can be combined to create multifunctional systems with technological applications. Additionally, the project employs analytical-spectroscopic techniques for the characterization of the obtained (nano)materials.
Chemistry
The Natural Products research line of the Graduate Program in Sciences at UNIFRAN aims to explore the chemical-biological potential of natural resources, with a primary focus on Brazil's rich biodiversity. To achieve this, a series of projects within this field are designed to obtain extracts, isolate and identify specialized metabolites, develop and validate analytical methods, and investigate the pharmacological, toxicological, and agrochemical potential of these resources. Additionally, the research seeks to derive new molecules through structural modification of isolated metabolites via semisynthesis or biotransformation processes.
Chemistry
The research line in Computational Chemistry and Polymeric Materials of the Graduate Program in Sciences at UNIFRAN aims to: (i) Perform computational calculations involving electronic structure and the nature of chemical bonds and interactions in molecular, polymeric, and supramolecular systems of interest in various areas of Chemistry, such as Environmental, Biological, and Materials Chemistry; (ii) Develop, characterize, and evaluate organic-inorganic hybrid materials, polymer-clay nanocomposites, and hydrogels for applications in new pollutant removal systems, smart dye separation, and controlled release of pharmaceuticals and nutrients for foliar nutrition.
Biological Chemistry
This research line involves studies aimed at understanding the effects resulting from interactions between organic and inorganic substances and materials with biological systems, with an emphasis on their applications in medicine, biomedical devices, biotechnology, and agriculture. In this context, different methodologies are employed to evaluate antiparasitic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, toxicological, and agrochemical potential.
In addition to the General Seminars (mandatory), students must complete:
– 30 credits in courses for the Master’s degree.
– 45 credits in courses for the Doctoral degree.
