GEBGE – Bakhtinian Studies Group on Discourse Genres
This group aims to conduct research on discourse genres, according to the reflections and discoveries of Mikhail Bakhtin, who relied on the original vision of Pavel Medviédev, for whom genres shape and contain social experience for individual people. The group consists of researchers from UNIFRAN’s Master’s Program in Linguistics and from other universities, as well as Master’s and undergraduate students in Literature and Pedagogy from UNIFRAN.
ACTANTES – UNIFRAN Semiotics Research Group
This group brings together researchers and undergraduate and graduate students interested in expanding knowledge about French-line semiotics. The idea is to offer an environment for theoretical and methodological studies and discussions that enable the refinement of participants’ analytical perspectives regarding the examination of meaning production in texts manifested through different languages, thereby allowing participation in national and international scientific events in the field, dialogue with other groups within the same theoretical framework, the improvement of developed research, and consequently, the publication of books and articles in specialized journals in Brazil and abroad.
PARE – Research in Argumentation and Rhetoric
The PARE (Research in Argumentation and Rhetoric) group was founded at the University of Franca on December 6, 2013, under the leadership of Professors Dr. Maria Flávia Figueiredo and Dr. Fernando Aparecido Ferreira. On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Antônio Suárez Abreu delivered a lecture titled “Common sense, mental models, and interpretive communities: a study of the audience in the argumentation process.” Composed of researchers at different levels of their academic careers, the group favors cascade mentoring, through which those at more advanced levels support and guide colleagues who are treading the academic path and can benefit from this collaborative work. Thus, the group includes full professors, post-doctoral researchers, masters, specialists, graduates, and undergraduate research students. Since its founding, the group has established the practice of forming academic-scientific cooperation links with other groups and institutions, which has been established with the ERA group (PUC-SP), the DISENSO Group (Univás), the GERAR group (USP), the Grupo de Estudios de Retórica (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina), and UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México). The research developed by the group has been disseminated in national and international conferences, as well as in books and qualified journals. Among these initiatives, the publication in 2016 of the work O animal que nos habita: a retórica das paixões em Relatos Selvagens (The animal that inhabits us: the rhetoric of passions in Wild Tales) stands out, which, with an intriguing and multidisciplinary theme (human passions and crimes of passion), has garnered great receptivity from the academic-scientific community.
GTeDi – Text and Discourse Studies Group
GTeDi is based at the University of Franca and includes the participation of faculty and students from the Master’s Program in Linguistics, as well as researchers from other Higher Education Institutions and undergraduate courses at UNIFRAN itself, whose research dialogues with the group’s objectives: to reflect on linguistic theory and analysis in the field of text and discourse studies. GTeDi actively participates in scientific meetings and publications whose scope is suitable for the group’s interests. In addition, the group is one of the organizers of SELINFRAN – UNIFRAN Linguistics Research Seminar, an annual event that always takes place in the second semester.
LabES – LABORATORY SOCIAL HEARINGS
LabES – Laboratório Escutas do Social (Laboratory Social Hearings) is a research project that brings together researchers in the field of Discourse Analysis and Psychoanalysis, interested in reflections on language, speech, and discourses. LabES offers itself as a place for listening to discourses and subjectivities that articulates research practices, training, and clinical listening. The questions addressed therein are situated in an ethical and political understanding of listening that unfolds into different domains – that of Discourse Analysis and that of Psychoanalysis – which, although they may touch and tension each other, imply their own theoretical practices: discursive reading and psychoanalytic listening. Far from seeking harmony or complementarity, the works gathered in LabES materialize reflections on ideology, the unconscious, history, language, and speech, articulated with themes such as testimony, the body, parenthood, the feminine, genders and sexuality, childhood, medicalization, violence, among others that take as presuppositions the facts that “there is only ideology by subjects and for subjects” (ALTHUSSER, 1974, p. 148) and that “the unconscious is structured like a language” (LACAN, 1998).
